Copper plates, fold out illustrations with explanation of the plate. Directions to the Illustrations. Directions to the Reader from the Author. Full calf binding with gilt decoration on the spine. Gilt decoration book covers edge.. The top spine tip has small loss. Binding is secure and fragile due to age. The top page edge is straight & square. Corners are bumped, opened with slight bend. Top and bottom of spine have 1/2 inch crack at the hinge not separated. Marbled decorated end pages. In this volume ONLY the page numbers are hand written and printed by the printer. There is visible smudge on several pages discoloration is more toward the beginning and the end of the text. Interior pages are mostly clean. There is foxing, a brown stain is seen on the pages before a fold out map/illustration. Fold outs are clean, tanning is on the back side of the fold outs. Under the following Heads: THE ART OF MILITARY, GRAMMAR & GRAMMARIANS, PHILOLOGY & PHILOLOGERS, RHETORICIANS, SOPHISTS and POETRY & POETS. 38 fold out Copper Plate Illustrations with explanation of the plate. Gilt decoration is found on all edges of the covers. Binding is secure and tight. The top page edge is straight and is darker than the side page edges. Corners are bumped with slight bend. The top spine tip has visible crack, not separated. Fragile Marbled decorated end pages. There is smudge, discoloration foxing Most of discoloration is found at the beginning and the end of the text. There is a vertical brown line on pages before a fold out illustration. The brown line is mainly in the margin. Fold out illustrations are clean, tanning is visible on the back side of the fold outs. On page 27 there is a tear through. The tear is 3 cm x 4 cm on the outer side margin. THE HISTORY OF THE ARTS AND SCIENCES OF THE ANTIENTS 1768 VOLUME III.
