1866 New York Antique Engraved Print Stuyvesant Destroying Summons to Surrender
Governor Stuyvesant Destroying the Summons to Surrender New York. Johnson, Fry & Co. Plate size 10 x 7″ (image area smaller) and total matted area 11 x 9″. Engraved after the painting by William Henry Powell. Genuine mid-19th century antique steel-engraved print in color, originally published in and subsequently excised from a book some possibly from a copy of the 2-volume Picturesque America published by D. Appleton in New York in the 1870s. Published by Johnson, Fry & Co. A few scuffs and light smudges in margins, uniform light toning but otherwise a fine example. Print is laid loosely inside a complimentary decorative mat. The print’s image may not fit perfectly within the mat window and thus may not be ideal for framing as-is. Print may or may not be evenly cut, some edges may not be perfectly straight. Evidence of old tape residue on one or more edges, see photos. Guaranteed steel-engraved illustrated plate published in the mid-19th century and not a modern reproduction. What our buyers say. Highly recommend this pro!
