Highly collectable 18th century Francois Nicholas Martinet bird engraving, c 1770. Fabulous antique engraving of the “Poule d’eau, de Cayenne” (a water bird, from Cayenne in French Guiana), plate number 352, from “Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux” by le Comte de Buffon, with engravings by Martinet, published in Paris 1770-86. Beautifully drawn and detailed original engraving from the most important ornithological work of the 18th century. A wonderful piece for any collector with an interest in natural history. Dimensions : paper measures approximately 28.5 x 22.5 cm; printed area (excluding title) measures approximately 22 x 19cm. Condition : please be aware that all antique prints will show some signs of age and wear. This piece is in excellent antique condition. The paper edges show some minor toning especially at the lower edge below title, but the image is clean with lovely colour.
