This book weighs 1 KG when packed. In two volumes, each complete and containing eighty plates divided between four illustrated wraps. Volume I also contains one leaf of text describing the fashions from 1795 to 1900, in French. Each plate shows one or two women in dress typical of a specific time. The relevant year is printed at the foot of each plate. In quarter calf bindings with cloth covered boards and fabric ties. Plates contained within paper wraps. Externally, sound with slight rubbing. Internally, closed tears to extremities of three paper wraps. Very slight loss to spine of one further wrap. Slight curling to edges of single page of text. Slight age-toning to front board of one paper wrap. Otherwise, bright and clean. Fine – Very well preserved copy showing very little wear. Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones. Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy. Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will. Be described in the condition report under’condition. Good Only – Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair. As with good only above but with other faults. Leaving a compromised copy even after repair. Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
