THAYENDANEGEA, GREAT CAPTAIN OF THE SIX NATIONS No. 86 RICE, RUTTER & CO Publishers This image from Vol. II of the 1872 Octavo edition will also include the biography pages from the text. THAYENDANEGEA, was also known as Joseph Brant. He is portrayed in traditional costume with a print shirt or tunic and green fabric draped over one shoulder. His neck is adorned with a dark blue tie and bead necklace. His head is mostly shaved with paint and other adornments. There is some age related toning and one spot in the upper left corner. Please refer to photos for more details on the condition. Hand colored lithograph color plates were by Henry Inman based on paintings by Charles Bird King, James Otto Lewis, and Peter Rindisbacher. Most of the original paintings were destroyed in a fire and the Henry Inman lithographs preserve the images.
