It is printed in black ink on fine old watermarked laid paper and the subject is “The Slaughter of the Innocents” after a tapestry cartoon by Raphael Sanzio de Urbino that dates to around 1519. It is signed in the bottom margin for Raphael and for the publisher Nicola Billy, working in Rome. Good sized, the print measures 19 3/4 x 9 1/4 inches, with usual trimmed margins with a couple of 1/4 inch edge tears, otherwise very fine condition. There are a couple of lines of text on the reverse in an ancient hand in sepia ink, these are partially obscured by a line of old gummed paper tape.
